The Wyoming Department of Transportation this week announced the reopening of a busy section of road that borders the University of Wyoming Campus in Laramie. The section of Grand Avenue had been closed since March 3 for a $4.5 million reconstruction project that was finished on time and on budget.

Motorists and pedestrians in Laramie can look forward to improved traffic flow and increased safety for all, said WYDOT Resident Engineer Steve Cook in a statement.

Concurrent with the reconstruction of Grand Avenue, the City of Laramie replaced two waterlines beneath the project area roadway. The university also conducted a good deal of lighting, irrigation, and landscaping on campus that they may still continue to work on.

According to WYDOT, the project included widening of Grand Avenue; new landscaped median islands; and pedestrian crossings.

Cook had praise for Simon Contractors, who finished the work ahead of schedule.

“Simon understood that Grand Avenue had to, unequivocally, reopen before the moving-in day for the dorms on August 29. They bowed their necks and got it done.”
