LOI: Reverting Hard Surfaced Roads and Pavements to Granular Surfaces

TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis Program has issued a request for letters of interest to synthesize information on measures to analyze and objectively determine when to remove the pavement and revert to a granular surface, and to identify appropriate gravel road maintenance strategies that will cost-effectively keep these reverted pavements in a better condition than the original distressed asphalt pavement. The synthesis will also explore agency outreach efforts that were used successfully to justify/explain the decision to revert the paved surface to gravel on a low volume road to the public and external stakeholders such as highway commissioners, legislators, and the public.

Information on consultants letters of interest, qualifications, and the submission process are available online at http://www.trb.org/SynthesisPrograms/NewTopicsNCHRP.aspx.

Letters of interest are due by August 15, 2014.
